This is really fun tongue-in-cheek essay! You've caricaturized (in a good way) a very asinine and infuriating political ideology that took the Internet by storm: a movement against politics or ideology.

Honestly, an antagonist like this in a real magical girl story would be very effective. Just this eldritch paragon of neutrality, who you cannot even refer to or name.

Thank you for making this game!

i think you captured what centrists think they think like really well

"events are for those beneath you" oh? that's interesting coming from this protagonist lol

(+4)

"They" would imply the genderless, which in itself implies inclusivity. This whole notion of "equality" seems to be in good faith, but some people would get upset. We can't have anyone upset, can we? To ruffle feathers is to cause discontent. Why people from both sides of the argument, that "people should be equal" and "they shouldn't exist", can't coincide, is beyond you. Isn't that antithetical to this "equality" camp's argument, if they can't?

this is such a good paragraph because i swear that's what bugs me most about centrists. Like, obviously, if one group is just wanting equality and the other is like "nah we're going to try to make them not exist any more", there's no way to be center leaning on that. Literally unable to coincide. And the "isn't that antithetical" "gotcha" that those people try to pull

its the tolerance paradox. we can't tolerate intolerance, otherwise we would be allowing more intolerance to happen

hypnopompia.... dude you have no idea how long ive been wondering if there's a word for the half asleep state i wake up in most of the time where i can't think straight for a bit.

and for that mystery of mine to be solved in the most random little itchio story. amazin

It's  like if the neutral  president from futurama made a game... that isn't  a compliment.

Voted on this for the Magical Girl Game Jam!

May my vote have no negative or positive impact, as voting would suggest a process of collective decision-making, which is political.

But (jokes aside) I seriously hope this game does well! Spectacular concept, and fantastic execution :>

(-2)

What the hell did I just read?

(+2)

ironically this is a provocative statement but i think this magical girl is actually a demon, and it lives inside me

(1 edit) (+5)

i would say i still can't believe you turned the joke into something real, but believe has connotations of religion, and sadly, we have to remain apolotical  😔

(+2)

I love this so much... But “love” as a concept is too political, alas, and would imply taking a stance against certain things (seriously though, this is really awesome, and speaks to a lot of things happening right now)

(+1)

hmm. words in portent. yes.

(+23)

I would love this, but that would mean I have an opinion of this game, and I am unfortunately apolitical

Man, reading this while having an Aria Math cover going... Well, I don't know why, but it's really giving The Stanley Parable vibes. It's like I can hear the narrator, haha!
...
Get this man out of my head, please.

Back to the main topic (Long rant, apologies! And I know the running gag of not acknowledging whatever this is as... whatever, but I'm a prude and I will send my compliments to the chef), this is an excellent apolitical satirical commentary on the state of identity politics. If you able to read the (quite surface level) message, it is clear that struggling with self-presence and the reality of the world is a fruitless endeavor. Things will exist, as should you. Reality is a selfish being, who has its rules laid out and the dice already rolled, rolling, or getting ready to be rolled. Trying your best to "not offend" anyone will, more than likely, end up offending someone. That's just life; it's paradoxical and cunning. All actions have consequences, and it's rather childish to try to run away from all of it. Sometimes there're results that you had no part in but affect you regardless, but that's just a part of living.

Personally, I do try my best not to step on any toes. It's more of a hassle to deal with escalatory aggressive people, but at the same time I still have my own existence to worry about. I will have my own opinions and views upon the world. If someone doesn't like them, it's unfortunate, but I'd instead rather live in avoidance and mutual peace.  If someone tries to change my views, oh well I could listen at first, but in most online cases, it usually ends up being demeaning and self-serving, to which I would simply turn the other cheek... or fight them about it. Otherwise, if the person was kind about it, well it probably wouldn't change much, but it'd at least be a nice conversation. What can I say? I was raised to dissociate or retaliate if someone does me wrong, and as a person I still have my pride. I'm most always competitive with words or games, unfortunately. But that is me, and that is what I deal with.

Overall, I do hope everyone can find their place in the world and not have to shove others to do it or conform to their self-beliefs. And again, apologies for the length! I just enjoy typing.

to take a stance on this game being disqualified from the jam would not only imply i have an opinion, but also that the act of the disqualification is something one could have an opinion on

(+8)

I am highly unoffended by this game.

(+13)

cant believe the jam host made this apolitical submission political by disqualifying it

(+13)

Absolute masterpiece that should not hurt any sensibilities at all.

100% apolitical. 100% magical girl.

(1 edit) (+12)

i can't believe this was disqualified! surely disqualification suggests that they are infringing on your free speech - the infringement upon which and existence of which is political in itself. such hypocrisy!

(+43)

the use of "pyjama" is inherently political and implies the unfortunate burden of being british

(1 edit) (+27)(-1)

Finally, a game with out any politics! I was worried the genre was unsalvageable. I was watching huggto precure and there was the statement "boys can be princesses" which was a little irksome.  Eugh. Moving on. In cosmic baton cometto chan the immigration policy was ridiculous,  nurse angel ririka has some disagreeable medical practices, petit princess yucie is insistent on women entering the workforce without any consideration for the skills of the fairer sex. Sailor moon movie R? A little on the nose! Princess tutu seemed like it would be alright and I cant exactly explain it, but something vaguely political was probably happening. Everywhere I went, I was battered with views and perspectives... magical girls, who I know are frilly warriors of whatever I want them to be, seemed to always have something to say. So thank you my dear compatriot for making something I can comfortably absorb with absolutely no challenge. Although the mere inclusion of the word "pyjamas" is offensive to me, a normal person (American) in a way I cannot fully articulate but can assure you is political on your part.

(+16)

well i am very sorry but i, a normal person (British) did not see any problems with the use of the words "pyjamas". i believe this is a problem with your view specifically as i, apolitical, am incapable of being wrong

(+26)

i hate to inform you but i'm american and our entire job is to not be wrong. nice try though

(+13)

i loved this but "love" is too nuanced of a concept for the apolitical nature of this gem

(+18)

I too attend 馬鹿外人高等学校

(+12)

so hard to be apolitical in this world 😔✊ thanks for keeping it real

(+21)

i'd say this is iconic but icons suggest idolatry and politics <3
